A Good Start
This books gives a good overview of the Ford Explorer. It is a good place to see how it can be repaired, good if you know about car repairs in general, but it becomes too vague if this is your first time repairing a part of the truck. For the price it is a great deal. If you want to know more you'll have to buy the big repair manuals from Helm (they publish Ford's service manuals).

Excellent Product
As always, Chilton's produces a magnificent product. I've used Chilton's guides in the past because of their accuracy, depth, and reliability, with this one providing more of the same. If you've never purchased a Chilton's before, take comfort that the higher price tag is well worth it. These manuals usually cost more than a Hayne's, however they provide much more information. Inside you will find everything from the routine oil change or transmission flush, to how to replace a bent crankshaft. The book is clearly designed for both the beginner do-it-yourselfer as well as a seasoned auto mechanic, with clear and precise instructions on how to accomplish any task. While sizes of certain sockets and wrenches may or may not be listed, the knowledge contained within this book outweighs the competition by far. Chiltons Auto Repair Manual-Ford Explorer
I have used Chilton manuals for many years and have found them to have excellent coverage of their subject. This one is no exception. I purchased this manual along with Haynes manual as they compliment each other. I would be hard pressed to make a choice between the two.

So nice to have!
I am so glad that we finally decided to get this manual for our car. When something goes wrong we no longer have to spend hours online trying to figure out what the problem might be and how or if we could fix it ourselves. It takes a lot of stress and worry out of car repairs because we have the instructions and pictures showing us how to do many of the repairs ourselves and if we can't do them ourselves then we are more informed when taking our car in for repairs. It brings a sense of security when dealing with mechanics.

One is enough.
Purchased both Haynes and Chilton repair manuals for featured vehicle, in order to have all tips and tricks from different sources, hoping if something not found in one, will found in the other. A bad surprise these both are virtually the same books inside different cover and slightly altered graphic layout. Written by the same author, identical content, the same pictures and illustrations. Buying both is definitely a waste of money, but this is my own fault. Maybe owning it too short to judge, but the first impression: Huge information on overhaul most probably never needed or attempted to be carried out by an average owner, on the other hand missing some basic information. Examples: 1) Don't expect to learn the wheel alignment adjustment values. 2) Body electrical system: not a word where the components are located in the vehicle. not perfect but fit good in a Mercury - Ford Cougar. fit good the empty space left on the sides. You'll have to modify the dash radio bezel if you want to install a 2 din with removable front panel or you'll not be able to remove the panel.
